William Charles Wentworth

William Charles Wentworth is the name of several members of the Wentworth family in New South Wales, Australia.

  • WCW (1793-1872) helped discover a way across the rugged Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney, along with Blaxland and Lawson.
  • WCW (18??-19??)
  • WCW (19??-2003) was a fiercely anti-communist Federal Parliamentarian, and also chairman of the committee who found a workable modest solution to the break of gauge problem afflicting the country's interstate railway system. The standard gauge line from Albury to Melbourne was the first result.

Several towns are named for the original WCW, plus the Federal Parliamentary seat of Wentworth in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
