Volleyball at the Summer Olympics
Volleyball at the 2004 Summer Olympics consisted of indoor volleyball held at the Peace and Friendship Stadium and beach volleyball held at the Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre; both were located at the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex.
Volleyball at the Olympic Games was split into two categories. The traditional volleyball competition and beach volleyball.

Volleyball
The traditional game was first introduced to the Summer Olympic Games as a demonstration event at the Paris, France 1924 Summer Olympics and promoted to an official medal event for both men and women in Tokyo, Japan at the 1964 Summer Olympics.

Beach Volleyball
Beach Volleyball made its debut in Atlanta at the 1996 Olympics and proved to be a great success with both the players and spectators. It has remained a fixture since and is one of the most watched olympic events.
