Vivekananda College

Vivekananda College, named after Swami Vivekananda, was founded in the late 1940s and is located in the centre of Madras, in Mylapore on 20 acres (81,000 m²). It is affiliated to the University of Madras and provides Arts, Science and Commerce courses at the Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral levels.

Always known for the Tibetian monks found studying sanskrit in its esteemed halls, it formed part of the famous quartet of colleges in Madras, Presidency, Pachaiappas, Loyola and Vivekananda. In fact students from these institutions were known as:

  • The Lords of Presidency
  • The Rogues of Pachaiappas
  • The Slaves of Loyola
  • The Swamis of Vivekananda
