Turgut zal

Turgut Özal (1927-1993) was a Turkish politician. He was Prime Minister in 1983 to 1989 and President from 1989 to his death. In 1982 he founded the Anavatan Partisi (Motherland Party) and won the first free election after the military coup of Kenan Evren.

As Prime Minister and later President he reformed the economy of Turkey and helped improve the relations with the western world. In the Gulf War of 1991, Özal supported the coalition against Iraq.
