Sourashtra languageThe Sourashtra language is now spoken by the Sourashtra( Palkar ) community in some parts of TamilNadu. HistoryThe Sourashtra language is spoken by the Sourashtra Community or the Palkar community.Their descendants migrated to South India basically as Weavers in the 17th century. They first settled in the Vijayanagar kingdom and later migrated down to regions around Madurai under King Thirumalai Nayak, who built the world famous Madurai Meenakshi Temple. Currently, they are spread in and around Madurai, Salem and few areas near Ramanathapuram. They have currently changed their profession slightly towards trade, small scale industries etc. from the conventional weaving (Handloom). But still they are known for Silk weaving. There are many scholars in this community and they have educational trusts, which are managing few primary schools to Engineering colleges. Many people of this commuinity currently excel in Software industries in Bangalore and Chennai. LanguageThis language is like the Gujarati language and resembles any other North Indian language. But since it has its existence in South India, it has some words originated from Tamil, Telugu also. This language has its own scripts, which is currently not used by many people speak it. This is because of the reason that it exists in Tamil Nadu and Tamil is being used for most of the written communication nowadays. This language is not having any well known literatures, but for a few creations. One of the known creator is Natana Gopala Nayaki Swamigal, who has compsed many devotional songs on Lord Krishna.
