Siberian TrapsThe Siberian Traps are an igneous rock plateau in Siberia. They were formed during the Permian-Triassic extinction event in what was the largest known volcanic event in the attestable geological history of the Earth, when vast volumes of basaltic lava paved deeply over a large expanse of primeval Siberia. Whether the volcanic event actually contributed towards the Permian event is not well understood.
