Shche ne vmerla Ukraina"Ukraine's glory hasn't perished" (Ще не вмерла Україна) is the national anthem of Ukraine. The music was composed in 1863 by Mykhailo Verbytsky, a western Ukrainian composer and Catholic priest intended to accompany a patriotic poem written in 1862 by Pavlo Chubynsky, a prominent ethnographer in the Kyiv region. In 1917 it became the anthem of the short-lived Ukrainian National Republic, but it was replaced by the Soviets. In 1992 the Ukrainian Parliament again adopted the song and lyrics as the national anthem. In 2003, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted a new lyric, which has modified Chubynsky's original words.
