Set and driftSet and drift are terms in navigation which refer to external forces acting upon a ship that make it deviate from its intended course. Set refers to the angle at which the ship deviates; drift is the speed, in knots, at which it deviates. Set and drift can be caused by any external force, but normally they are caused by tidal current, windage, and helmsman error.
