Northern Light InfantryThe Northern Light Infantry (NLI) is the main force protecting the strategically important Northern Areas of Pakistan and the majority of this Regement contains the native Gilgitis, Baltis, Brushos, Wakhis and Khuwars etc. It was formed in 1973 with the amalgamation of the Northern Scouts along with its Scout wings: the Karakoram Scouts, Northern Scouts and Gilgit Scouts. The Northern Light Infantry was made a Battalions of the Pakistan army only after the Kargil War in 1999. Its Regimental Centre is located at Bunji near Gilgit, in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Lalak Jan of NLI is the first native of Gilgit-Baltistan to receive the highest millitry award, Nishan-i-Haider, for bravery. External links
