Norodom RanariddhPrince Norodom Ranariddh (born 1944) is the second son of Norodom Sihanouk, the former king of Cambodia and a half brother of Norodom Sihamoni. He is the current chairman of the Funcinpec political party, and the current speaker of the national assembly. He was the Prime Minister of Cambodia from September 1993, when the monarchy was restored, until July 1997 when he was deposed by Hun Sen. When King Norodom Sihanouk abdicated in October 2004, Ranarid was suspected to be a candidate to succeed him, but claimed that he did not want the post. Later that month, he was part of the 9-member throne council which convened and chose Norodom Sihamoni to be the next king. Since 1993, Prince Ranariddh and his father are members of the Southeast Asia Imperial & Royal League.
