Lakehead University

Lakehead University is located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, at the head of Lake Superior. Fieldwork complements the academic component of many of Lakehead's programs, which are predominately at the undergraduate level; the University is known for its strengths in outdoor recreation, parks and tourism, forestry, and environmental studies.

The university has evolved from the Lakehead Technical Institute (LTI), which was first established in 1946 and became known as the Lakehead College of Arts, Science and Technology in 1956. The insititution became Lakehead University in 1965.

In 2004, the University along with Laurentian University formed the Northern Ontario Medical School.

The University's motto is Ad augusta per angusta ("achievement through effort"). Lakehead's colours are royal blue and gold, and its varsity teams are called The Thunderwolves.
