Jalisco is one of the 31 states of the United Mexican States (Mexico).
Jalisco has an area of about 79,085 km² (some municipalities are currently being disputed with neighboring states).
Jalisco borders the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Mexican states of Nayarit to the north west, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosí to the north, Guanajuato to the east, and Colima and Michoacán to the south. In 2003 Jalisco had an estimated population of 6,487,000 people.
The capital of Jalisco is the city of Guadalajara. Within Jalisco are included the cities of Chapala, Ciudad Guzmán, and Puerto Vallarta. The municipalities of Guadalajara, Tonala, Tlaquepaque, Tlajomulco, and Zapopan are part of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Zone or Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara.
