Displaced person

A displaced person (sometimes abbreviated DP) describes one removed from his or her native country as a refugee, prisoner or a slave laborer. This term is most commonly used for people who were displaced during World War II but may also be used for other wars and conflicts.

An internally displaced person (IDP) is a person who was been forced to leave his or her native place (typically, due to military conflict or persecution) for another place in the same country. The distinction from refugee is that a refugee is a person who has been forced to leave for a different country.
