Hebron massacreHebron massacre occurred August 23, 1929 in the ancient city of Hebron during the years of the British Mandate of Palestine. 67 Jews were killed during this riot. By 1929 about 800 Jews lived in Hebron within tens of thousands Arab neighbors. After an incident the day prior, in which three Jews and three Arabs were killed, Jewish-Arab tensions were spurred by the agitations by the Mufti of Jerusalem, by spreading false rumors that the Jews would carry out "wholesale killings of Arabs".
