FIFAFédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the international governing body of the sport of association football (sometimes called simply football, or soccer). It is based in Zurich, Switzerland. FIFA was formed in Paris on March 21, 1904 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2004. It announced in April 2004 that it is expecting to earn $144 million profit on $1.64 billion in revenue between 2003 and 2006 The organisation works in conjunction with regional arms that oversee football development in the different parts of the world. FIFA also promotes the sport, regulates the transfer of players between teams, awards the FIFA World Player of the Year, and publishes the FIFA World Rankings every month. The laws of football that govern the game, are maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which consists of four representatives from FIFA. and one representative each from The Football Association, the Scottish Football Association, the Football Association of Wales, and the Irish Football Association.
