Elmer Lee Andersen

Elmer Lee Andersen (born June 17, 1909) is an American politician. He served as the 30th governor of Minnesota from January 2,1961 to March 25,1963 as a member of the Republican Party.

The 1962 election was held November 6, 1962, but the results were not known until March 21, 1963. With almost 1.3 million votes cast for governor, Karl Fritjof Rolvaag beat Andersen by 91 votes after he was granted a recount. The margin of 0.007% remains (as of 2004) the closest gubernatorial election in Minnesota's history.

In 2004, Anderson broke with party ranks to endorse John Kerry in his bid to unseat George W. Bush as president of the United States.
