Congo

Congo is the name of two countries in Central Africa:

Republic of the Congo (green) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (red)
Republic of the Congo (green) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (red)

Congo is also the name of:

  • The Congo or Kongo Kingdom, under Portuguese protection, during part of its existence.
  • The Congo River, which drains both those two Central African countries.
  • The basin of that river. The Congo and its subsidiaries run through the second largest rain forest area in the world, with only the Amazon Rainforest (much) larger. See: Congo River basin.
  • In Vodun, a rather dull and lazy spirit was named Congo.
