Amestris

Amestris, also Queen-Mother Amestris was the King Xerxes I of Persia's wife After being deposed in 484 as the queen of Xerxes I she returned with the title of queen-mother during the reign of Artaxerxes I. She died in 424.

She is most renown for ordering the death of several Athenians who Megabyzus (Megabyxos, Bagabukhsha) had defeated in Egypt after the quelling of the insurrection started by Inarus who collaborated with the Greeks.

It is possible that she is Queen Vashti in the Book of Esther.
