Sound velocity

Sound velocity or particle velocity or sound particle velocity is the velocity v in m/s with which particles of air oscillate. It should not be confused with the speed of sound c, which often is wrongly named "velocity of sound".
In acoustics the sound velocity level (particle velocity level) Lv in decibels is usually used for the sound velocity v .

The sound velocity v in m/s is:

v = \frac{p}{Z} = \frac{J}{p} = \sqrt{J / Z}

Sound pressure p in N/m² = Pa
Acoustic impedance, sound impedance, or Characteristic impedance Z in N·s/m³
Sound intensity J in W/m²
