Winter Olympics
The 2014 Winter Olympics, formally called the XXII Winter Olympic Games, will be an international athletic event that has yet to be organized by the International Olympic Committee. The organization under the leadership of Jacques Rogge is currently preparing to mount calls for cities to bid for the honor of hosting the event. The winner will be announed in 2007 at an International Olympic Committee convention in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Host BidsAnnecy in France, Sofia in Bulgaria and Tromsø in Norway have formally announed their intentions to compete for the honor of hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics. Other potential bids are likely from Andorra la Vella, Andorra; Salzburg, Austria; Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina; Harbin, China; Grenoble, France; Munich, Germany; Pyeongchang or Muju, South Korea; Jaca, Spain; Östersund or Åre, Sweden. The United States Olympic Committee, under its unique selection process, is currently conducting feasability studies for potential American bids for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Possible contenders include Anchorage, Alaska and Half Moon Bay, California. Lake Tahoe, which shares a border with California and Nevada, has conducted feasability studies for both the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics. External Links
